Roman gladiator fought in amphitheatres. One of the most famous is the Colosseum. This is where gladiators, slaves who tried to escape their owners house or in other words criminal’s fought to the death in this arena. The gladiator would fully equipped with a spear, fork, shield, armour and a sword. On the hand the slave etc. would be armed with a dagger and a net. If one of begged for mercy(usually the slave etc.). Then it was over to the crowd to decide if they should let the beggar live or die. If they did thumbs up that showed that they wanted him killed. If they did thumbs down that they wanted him spared, I find that rather confusing. There are over 80 entrances to the Coliseum and if you wanted to go and watch one of the battles. You had to get a ticket which told which seat you are in and which are you entrance are you supposed use. And they watched this to entertain themselves!!
